Project: Showtime Anytime Concept

Client: EchoStar for Dish Network and Showtime

Role: User Interface Design

Working with featured programming assets provided by the Showtime television network, my role was to produce a concept for "Showtime Anytime" programming. This is one of my personal favorite design concepts because it satisfies the 10-foot requirements for television viewing, while keeping familiar and consistent navigation elements across platforms. (Though TV navigation can be a very different realm without a mouse or touch movement.)

Project: Production Menu Button, Weather (ViP 722k Receiver)

Client: EchoStar for Dish Network

Role: Designer

This is a button for the production weather application residing on the set-top box. This is one of several production navigation assets that I designed during my time as a full-time employee at EchoStar.

Project: Showtime Anytime

Client: EchoStar/Dish Network for Showtime

Role: Designer

This is a conceptual mock-up for the Showtime Anytime application interface.

Project: CNN Implementation

Client: EchoStar/DISH Network for CNN

Role: User Interface Designer

The design challenge is to enable access to CNN news and sports "real-time." In this concept, the user can access real-time CNN content utilizing a little-known feature on the DISH 722 Vip receiver: Split-screen mode.

Project: MSNBC Production Application

Client: EchoStar/DISH Network for MSNBC

Role:Design Team

This was my first production application for the DISH receiver. I inherited "active" state bar assets from DISH's designer, though I needed to create additional states for the graphic assets, and a navigation pattern for the UI.

Project: NBC Summer Olympic Games (for DishONLINE)

Client: DISH Network/NBC

Role: DishONLINE Webmaster

This is a production screen shot from the Summer Olympic Games content made available to DISHOnline from NBC Sports. Utilized here: Newsfeed and ad assets. My role as DishONLINE webmaster was content development, web design and technical support (the site was managed by EchoStar and hosted by DISH), in addition to managing day-to-day business and communications relating to the web site.

Project: SHOWTIME STREAMING on DISH HOPPER

Client: SHOWTIME

Role:UI Designer

This is a conceptual proposal for 10-foot experience.

Project: Screensaver

Client: DISH

Role: Designer

Project: NBC Sports

Client: DISH Network for NBC

Role: User Interface Designer

This is a screen shot of the production sports application on the DISH 722k model IP-enabled set-top box. Data and branding by NBC Sports. As was the typical process, I would present 2 or 3 conceptual mockups, and stakeholders would evaluate the concepts presented, and we would move forward in the approval process. My involvement as designer didn't end there, as I worked closely with application developer to achieve the intended UI, and remained involved through testing and user acceptance.

As a designer working with stakeholders at all levels of expertise, it's important to remain flexible, maintain objectivity and be ready to accomodate creative or technical direction that arises as part of the collaborative development process. Even if all suggestions aren't always implemented, I have learned to value everyone's input.

Project: Smashing Pumpkins Android App

Client: Concept for app store

Role: User Interface Designer

This mobile app would be targeted for fans of the rock band Smashing Pumpkins. Fans could play songs, share, review, create playlists, read lyrics, notes and tabs, trivia and enjoy exclusive content featuring interviews and rare performance videos. Registration would enable fans to receive band updates and ticket alerts.

Project: Facebook

Client: EchoStar for Facebook

Role: Designer/Project Lead

This concept is an example of TV-centric use of the Facebook application. This concept resulted in U.S. Patent 8,769,422. The primary feature is program-sharing (a friend could accept or reject the suggestion in their queue). Additionally, users could share comments if they were watching the same program, or see other Friends who were watching the same program real-time.

Project: Music Hub

Client: EchoStar for DISH Network

Role: User Interface Designer

Shown here is a conceptual mockup of the home screen for a proposed DISH music application, which would reside on DISH's IP-enabled "Hopper" receiver. Also represented in this slide are alternate proposals for the "Music Hub" application menu icon.
