Congress is already lagging far behind in its efforts to regulate technology giants, and it’s unlikely that any meaningful legislation to address political misinformation and misuse of consumer data will emerge anytime soon. Recently, though, the U.S. Senate took first steps towards transparency as the race to build new systems with artificial intelligence will continue booming in 2024. The last of the great “Glam Rock” bands like T. Rex, went extinct in the 1970s. The last rock god/style icon was David Bowie, whose groundbreaking personas and musical greatness set him apart. Today, artists like Danny Hernandez aka 6ix9ine — whose look is a swirling canvas of neon color — present creative style, but Hernandez sounds like every other rapper. In something of a throwback to 70’s glam that’s pushing boundaries today, enter Måneskin, the Italian group who went from performing on Rome street corners to the top of the charts worldwide. Their formula for success: magnificent songs, electrifying live performances and favoloso style!
Rock the Runway!
Dua Lipa rocks the charts and the Versace runway! This multi-talented British superstar is on top of the world right now, though all is not perfect in her Barbi world. Dua was hit with a third lawsuit claiming copyright infringement from her smash hit song “Levitating.” The $20 million lawsuit was filed in August in Los Angeles by musician Bosko Kante, who claims that Dua and Warner Music Group used his talk box effects device without permission on remixes. The Kante claim is actually the third legal challenge to “Levitating,” though as a song collaborator, Kante’s challenge concerning the song’s remixes, will be interesting to follow.
Copyright lawsuits are nothing new for major recording artists: Taylor Swift, Drake, Sam Swift and Ed Sheeran are just a few top artists who have faced copyright claims. In Dec. 2022, Swift settled out of court involving a claim over her mega-hit song “Shake it Off.”
