NBA Champions
By Mary J. Russell
The Denver Nuggets are NBA Champions. My goodness! So I watched the replays several times after the celebrations that unforgettable night — yes, it’s true: They did it! Still, it remains difficult to believe. After so many years of failure and the devastating setbacks from injuries to star players, the Nuggets finally made it to the top.
The Championship Victory Parade was an absolute blast. Who can ever forget Kentavious Caldwell-Pope doing Stone Cold. It didn’t matter if beer was getting sprayed everywhere — on that day, I didn’t mind. Aaron Gordon, now a hero in the Mile High City, got off the fire truck to spread joy and happiness among the people. It was amazing. Then there was Nikola Jokic, who most national “analysts” don’t realize is a total bad-ass, and Jamal Freaking Murray, who is one of the greatest talents I have ever seen pick up a ball of any kind. The things that Jamal Murray has done in a Denver Nuggets uniform are spectacular, nearly beyond words. But he was on the truck with Avalanche/Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke and seemed to be more restrained than his teammates, who took the party down on the streets.
